Solo Ads - How To Avoid Your Autoresponder Account Being Terminated

How To Avoid Your Autoresponder Account Being Terminated

2014 has been an up and down year for solo ads.
More and more people are getting into the business which has both good and bad points.
The good – More people to do business with. More clicks and money going round.
The bad – Arrival of scammers, with their fake/bot clicks. Diluted traffic. Heavy termination of autoresponder accounts by the ‘big boys’ (Aweber and Get Response)
Solo ad sellers are sending out MORE emails than any other industry on a daily basis. As most of what they are doing is simply generating clicks –  email value is low, and as a result has more unsubscribes and people hitting the spam button than any other area of Internet Marketing.
As more and more people get into building lists with solo ads, then sending out similar emails, the autoresponder’s have started cracking down and terminating accounts with little or no reason.
Think about this for a second.
You spend time, effort, AND money building up your email list. You edge closer towards 2000 subscribers… then 5000, then the magic 10,000 mark… you are doing great. You’re going to be rich! Emails are going out, and money is coming in….
Then from nowhere… bang! Account terminated. All your subs – gone. Income – gone.
Take it from me, this is one of the worst feelings in the world. I had it happen to me last May.
My Aweber account with over 70,000 subscribers in it, generating about $1000 per week, was shut down overnight with no warning, no nothing.
One minute it was there, and the next minute it was gone.
I had spent over 18 months building this account up, sweating blood, tears and money along the way.
The worst thing about Aweber was that I couldn’t even argue my case. They weren’t interested in my reasoning or requests to re-open the account. Once you’re terminated, that’s it. Game over.
Luckily after a lot of hassle, I was able to get a .csv of my subscribers so not all was lost, however they are not much use on their own! You NEED your subscribers in an autoresponder.
So – what can we do to avoid your autoresponder account being terminated?

Don’t send out “spammy” emails!

I have an email address I use to sign up to as many squeeze pages as I can, so I get hundreds of solo ad mails coming in every day.
The subject lines and swipes I see being sent out are crazy – and it amazes me that more people don’t get banned sending out this kind of content.
Examples :
Subject line : Paypal transaction complete
Subject line : [1] Unread Message
Subject line : Re : You made a sale!
Subject line : [Urgent] Important Notice About Your Account
Subject line : Paypal Receipt #75219297 has been sent to you?
Read those back to yourself for a minute. What have they got to do with solo ads, squeeze page offers, or making money online? Nothing!
These kind of mails are deliberately “spammy” and may generate more opens and clicks, but you are just asking for trouble sending out this kind of content. Think of it as living on a knife edge.
Maybe your autoresponder sees you sending out these kind of mails. And maybe they don’t.
Maybe you get your account terminated. And maybe you don’t.
Why put yourself at risk?
Keep the subject lines and swipe content relevant to the offer page you are emailing for.

- Don’t send emails with rotator links in the .html

This has actually been given out as a termination reason by Aweber recently, so beware! Pretty much everyone doing solo ads uses rotator software such as Clickmagick or QCC.
Do NOT put direct links to your rotator script inside your emails.
Instead, send to a fixed .html page with a META redirect that then sends to your rotator link.
The code for this is super simple – feel free to copy what I use :)
<html><head>
<meta HTTP-EQUIV=”REFRESH” content=”0.8; url=http://www.URL_To_Your_Rotator_Link_Here.html”>
<title>Please Wait Until The Next Page Loads…..</title>
</head><body></body></html>
Paste the above into an .html file.
0.8 is the amount of time in seconds before the page refreshes to your rotator link. Change this to any time that you like, including 0.
Change “URL_To_Your_Rotator_Link_Here” to the URL of your rotator link.
Upload the html file to your server and you’re done.
Use THIS new link in your autoresponder emails.

- Don’t send out too many emails!

The more emails you send, the more clicks you can (potentially) generate. This is simple logic.
However, both your subscribers and your autoresponder are going to get pissy if you hammer them relentlessly with 10 sends a day. Don’t go overboard! I recommend 2 a day absolute max from Get Response. (1 every 12 hours)
If you are using Aweber, do 1 main send then 12 hours later, send to your ‘unopens’.
There is a great YouTube explaining how to do this right here.
– As you start sending regular emails from your autoresponder, and keeping a spreadsheet with details as I outlined in this post, you will notice that some pull more opens and clicks than others.
It’s easy to get tempted into re-sending these mails out over and over again – as you know they will generate good clicks!
However, this is bad practice for 2 reasons.
1. The more you send out a mail, the more your subscribers will recognise it. So what was once a ‘killer’ email for you, soon turns into a duff that will get ignored, unopened, and generate poor clicks. Save emails like this that you know work, and send them out once a month instead.
2. If your autoresponder sees you sending out the same, duplicate emails day after day…. then guess what?
Yep – they’re going to terminate your account.
Practice hard and learn how to write decent, clear, and more importantly varied swipes.
Your subscribers, and your autoresponder will both thank you for it.
Any input? We’d love to hear from you.
